- Floor area approx. 250 m², i.e. 10 m² per employee.
- 66 × EVLN-PL 60×60 panel, 500 lx (EN 12464-1), replacing fluorescent luminaires of approx. 72 W.
- Lights on 10 h a day for 250 days a year, energy at €0.24/kWh.
- 15 sick days per employee a year, 13.6% of them due to respiratory infections (Polish social insurance ZUS, 2025).
- A sick day costs about €32 in sick pay (employer and ZUS) plus about €121 of lost work per working day (average Polish gross pay, GUS 2025).
- The luminaires replace ozone treatment 4 times a year at about €1.18/m².
- Amounts converted from Polish data at 4.25 PLN/EUR.

Fewer infections circulating in an open-plan office means fewer empty desks in the season. The luminaires work throughout the working day, without breaks and without UV.
Where the numbers come from
- Sick leave: Polish social insurance (ZUS), “Sickness absence in 2025”. 242 million sick days for own illness, 13.6% of them due to respiratory diseases. Sickness payments totalled PLN 34.9 billion; employers pay for the first 33 days.
- 15 sick days per employee and the cost per day are our calculations from ZUS data: 242 million days ÷ approx. 16.2 million insured, and PLN 34,884.7 million ÷ 254.5 million days ≈ PLN 137 (€32). Lost work: average gross pay PLN 8,935 (GUS 2025) plus employer costs ÷ 21 working days ≈ PLN 513 (€121).
- Fruit and vegetable losses: supermarkets lose on average 12.6% of fruit and 11.6% of vegetables (USDA ERS). We assume 12%. Under EV SUN light fruit and vegetables stay fresh 3 days longer (manufacturer’s statement), which we assume cuts losses by 30%.
- Air disinfection: ozone treatment costs approx. PLN 4–6/m² per session (kb.pl). We assume 4 sessions a year at PLN 5/m².
- Energy: number of luminaires by the lumen method, N = E × A ÷ (Φ × 0.6 × 0.8), one-for-one replacement, PLN 1.00/kWh. Energy savings apply only when replacing fluorescent lighting.
- The reduction in sick leave is a simulation assumption, not a manufacturer’s claim. Amounts converted at 4.25 PLN/EUR.
